MTN Nigeria has adjusted its data plan prices, sparking reactions from customers. The telecom giant confirmed the increase on its X (formerly Twitter) account, stating that the adjustment aims to improve service delivery.
This follows the Nigerian Communications Commission's (NCC) recent approval of tariff hikes for telecom operators, citing economic conditions. NCC spokesperson Reuben Mouka clarified that while some operators proposed over a 100% increase, the approved maximum adjustment was capped at 50%.
However, MTN’s revised prices show significant hikes, with some plans increasing by over 200%.
New MTN Data Prices:
15GB bundle – Previously ₦2,000, now ₦6,000
1.5TB plan – Previously ₦150,000, now ₦240,000
100GB bundle – Previously ₦20,000 for 100GB, now ₦25,000 for 90GB
600GB bundle – Previously ₦75,000, now ₦120,000 for 480GB
The price revision has led to widespread discussions, with many users expressing concerns over affordability.
